Update: Person In Custody In Connection With Madison County Murder
Victim died at the scene, was husband and father, deacon at church

WHNT NEWS 19 Staff Reports Staff Writer

3:49 PM CDT, September 30, 2009

MADISON COUNTY, AL - The Madison County Sheriff's Department has a person in custody in connection with a shooting that happened early Wednesday morning. The victim, George Woodard, was shot in the head in his driveway. He died there.

Woodard's home is at the corner of Debbie Boulevard and Naugher Road, just off Jordan Road. He was a supervisor at the Toyota plant in Huntsville, and was a deacon at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

"I have to forgive whoever did this to my brother, because he was in choir rehearsal last night and he did the closing prayer, and we were very close, and he's an all-around Christian," said Sheila Woodard. "He was a person you would see the glory of God on."

Woodard's wife and one of their three children were at home at the time of the shooting. His sister says they all have a tough road ahead.

"I'm going to miss my brother, because he was my rock," said Woodard.

WHNT NEWS 19 has a crew on the scene. We'll update WHNT.com and 19NewsNow.com throughout the day with new information as soon as we learn it. Watch live updates Wednesday on WHNT NEWS 19 at 5:00 and 6:00.
